trumpty Goes After Most Medically Vulnerable Children

The Oregonian Morning Briefing September 10

The Trump administration has yanked a yearslong grant for a program that serves 110 of Oregon’s most medically vulnerable children, citing an unrelated plan by the program’s fiscal agent, Portland Public Schools, to open a Center for Black Student Excellence.

The notification that the grant for the Oregon DeafBlind Project would be immediately discontinued was a shock, said Lisa McConachie, the initiative’s director. Work on initiatives like the Center for Black Student Excellence is unrelated to the focus of the Oregon DeafBlind Project, which trains educators who work with students with vision and hearing impairments and helps their families with resources, McConachie said.
