The Supreme Court just gave ICE permission to racially profile people in Los Angeles.
The Court stepped in today to lift a court order that had stopped ICE agents from stopping people in Los Angeles based on their perceived race, the language they speak, where they work, and even whether they take the bus.
This is yet another win the MAGA justices on the Supreme Court have handed Trump and his authoritarian administration. It’s a disaster not just for immigrants but for all of our constitutional freedoms.
The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights Los Angeles (CHIRLA) has been on the ground helping folks know their rights when stopped since Donald Trump created the crisis in Los Angeles. They aren’t slowing down, but they need our help.
The Supreme Court offered zero justification for their horrifying ruling.
In dissent, the overruled liberal justices wrote, “We should not have to live in a country where the government can seize anyone who looks Latino, speaks Spanish and appears to work a low wage job.”
That’s exactly the type of country Trump wants. And the Supreme Court has proven time and time again that it will support Trump’s racist, authoritarian agenda to deport as many people as possible.
The decision gives ICE the green light to racially profile people not just in Los Angeles, but across the country. Thousands of people have already been affected. Now, the door is open for unidentified, masked thugs to disappear our neighbors and friends based on their appearance or their job.
