DoorDash is throwing its weight behind a bill that would make it easier for corporations to strip millions of people of basic workplace protections.
H.R. 1319 – the so-called “Modern Worker Empowerment Act” – just passed the House Education & Workforce Committee and could see a floor vote any day now. Don’t be fooled by the name.
This bill would let employers reclassify vast swaths of their workforce as “contractors,” cutting them off from benefits, overtime, anti-discrimination protections, and the right to organize.
