'Write', it said. Once again, Spirit rises in my soul
and requests that I put pen to paper.
I awoke from a dream, having fallen backward into a tire.
As I lie on my back, looking up in surprise,
Spirit said, 'Stay there. See the world from this perspective.'
As I lie on my back, looking up in surprise,
Spirit said, 'Stay there. See the world from this perspective.'
And I realized Spirit wants me to look honestly at our life...
in this very moment, this horrible, inconceivable moment.
in this very moment, this horrible, inconceivable moment.
'Stay with it. Feel the feelings roaring through your soul.
Know this place, for it is where you reside right now.
Only from this space can you move forward.'
Know this place, for it is where you reside right now.
Only from this space can you move forward.'
So, as I write this, I listen to a beautiful rendition of
America the Beautiful.
America the Beautiful.
And my soul peers into the twilight of our country,
darkness moving with purpose to extinguish our light.
darkness moving with purpose to extinguish our light.
And, a song came to sit with me, I Won't Give Up.
When I look into your eyesIt's like watching the night skyOr a beautiful sunriseWell, there's so much they holdAnd just like them old starsI see that you've come so farTo be right where you areHow old is your soul?Well, I won't give up on usEven if the skies get roughI'm giving you all my loveI'm still looking upAnd when you're needing your spaceTo do some navigatingI'll be here patiently waitingTo see what you find'Cause even the stars, they burnSome even fall to the earthWe've got a lot to learnGod knows we're worth itNo, I won't give upI don't wanna be someone who walks away so easilyI'm here to stay and make the difference that I can makeOur differences, they do a lot to teach us how to use the tools and giftsWe got, yeah, we got a lot at stakeAnd in the end, you're still my friend, at least we did intendFor us to work, we didn't break, we didn't burnWe had to learn, how to bend without the world caving inI had to learn what I got, and what I'm notAnd who I amI won't give up on usEven if the skies get roughI'm giving you all my loveI'm still looking upI'm still looking upWell, I won't give up on us (No, I won't give it up)God knows I'm tough enough (I am tough, I am loved)We got a lot to learn (We're alive, we are love)God knows we're worth it (And we're worth it)I won't give up on usEven if the skies get roughI'm giving you all my loveI'm still looking up
I agree.
Tears now line my eyes...day and night.
The ache in my heart, the somber on my spirit,
as relentless as the attacks against our country.
The ache in my heart, the somber on my spirit,
as relentless as the attacks against our country.
Today, the United States is 149 years old.
Today, we look out at the world from within
the gaping maw of authoritarianism, evil.
Not a happy birthday, profoundly sad, mourning.
And yet, I can't, I won't, give up on us.
I'm still looking up.
The skies have gotten rough.
Yet, I give U.S. all my love.
I'm still looking up.
